Coding Specialist


This position requires a CPC with 2-3 years exp. in coding professional claims.

Specifications
Education:
2 years college or equivalent experience.
Experience:
At least 2 years of Physician coding experience.

Licensure, Registry or Certification Required:
CPC
Special Training:
85 net key strokes per minute on data entry skills test; 10 key calculator; computer experience, CRT, PC, other types of equipment; knowledge of ICD9, CPT and HCPCS coding; must be able to think analytically and communicate well with others.
Key Responsibilities
Responsible for the verification of the coding and charge entry process of all professional primary or secondary third party claims. Edit and correct failed claims relating to coding. Monitor claims for appropriate billing. Communicate problems with billing to the Charge Team Coordinator /Physician Billing Manager. Monitors and bill correctly for 72 hour rule for Medicare.
Responsible for staying abreast of all changes and updates both state and federal that effect the accurate and timely submission of all third party claims.
Receive and answer patient telephone and written inquiries regarding the charge process discrepancies for all third party payers.
Obtain CEU s required to secure and maintain their CPC status.
Post charges, correct charges and diagnosis. Document all billing notes and patient telephone calls. Work and prepare reports necessary to maintain acceptable levels of accounts receivables.
Assist the Charge Team Coordinator in the training of new employees.
Performs other duties as appropriate to help facilitate the accomplishment of overall BUP Central Billing Office departmental goals.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
